downtown Coeur d'Alene shopping

There are hundreds of shopping opportunities in the retail and service center for North Idaho, the Coeur d’Alene area. In downtown Coeur d’Alene, stroll Sherman Avenue’s “lamp-post and cobblestone” main street where for generations family-owned stores like Everson’s Jewelry and and the Sports Cellar still thrive and trendy new shops and art galleries abound. The Plaza Shops, an upscale enclosed mall on Sherman between Second and Third Streets is also the site of book signings, fashion shows, concerts and art displays. From five-star dining and wine shops to brew pubs, specialty coffee houses, ethnic food and family fare, downtown is the place to be.

At the west entrance to Coeur d’Alene, Northwest Blvd. takes shoppers to The Village at Riverstone with a 209,000 square foot Main Street center featuring full-service restaurants, a 14-screen cinema, services and apparel retailers. The centerpiece is built around a “Main Street” concept with pedestrian-friendly avenues, retail shops and restaurants on the first level with 122 residential units on the second and third stories.

Mid town coeur d'alene

The rapidly emerging mid-town Coeur d’Alene shopping district is home to eclectic shops, bakeries, pubs, fine dining and entertainment. A few blocks from downtown on north 4th Street, Safeway offers a full service grocery store. Further north, are Towne Center Mall (located at Appleway & Gov’t Way), Appleway Square and Sunset Mall anchored by major retailers such as Hastings Books and Big Lots in addtion to local services, specialty shopping and dining.

On Government Way, north of Appleway, major shopping is found at Costco and Sportsman’s Warehouse, across the street from K-Mart. Further north on Government Way are an assortment of retailers and small malls with galleries, local crafts and coffee shops.

Silver Lake Mall (indoors at Hwy 95 and Hanley) has over 60 retail and food stores including major retailers JC Penneys, Macy’s and Sears. Also in the vicinity are several national favorites such as Target, Ross, T.J. Maxx, PetCo, Pier 1 Imports, Borders Books, Home Depot and Office Max to name just a few. MacKenzie River Pizza Company recently opened at Hwy 95 & Canfield.

Hayden creek plaza

The rapid residential growth of Hayden is served by the over 40 shopping, dining and service stores in and around the Prairie Shopping Center at Hwy 95 and Prairie Avenue. On Government Way, the new Hayden Creek Plaza is visible by a beautiful multi-tiered water feature and rapidly filling storefronts including boutiques, salons, gourmet foods, and one of the area’s favorite Italian restaurants, Ciao Mambo. North on Government Way is Hayden’s downtown district with a variety of small shops and eateries.

Cabella's Post Falls Idaho

Near the Washington stateline, Post Falls is the site of the recently opened Cabela’s. Cabela’s features museum-quality displays of taxidermied wildlife, large aquariums, indoor mountains and archery ranges. Other attractions include a restaurant, gun library and travel service where customers can plan trips to anywhere in the world. Post Falls is also famous for the longest “Main Street” in America running west from Seltice Way through town past Highway 41 on the east. A WalMart Superstore, with a parking lot for RV overnighters, is surrounded by several new malls offering local boutique shopping and an assortment of dining and fast food options.

Shopping in Sandpoint Idaho

Touted as a “walking town,” Sandpoint offers some the region’s most varied shopping experiences. A quaint downtown area has dozens of unique galleries, restaurants, clothing and gift stores. The Cedar Street Bridge, built in 1906 and converted into a shopping promenade is also a tourist attraction. Nationally acclaimed clothier, Coldwater Creek, is headquartered in Sandpoint and features a storefront on 1st Street. The Litehouse Bleu Cheese Factory and Gifts, 2nd & Lake, offers tours of the creamery, free samples daily and always has great outlet specials. The area’s premier winery, the Pend d’Oreille Winery, has a gift shop and tasting room on Cedar St.

North on either Hwy 95 or Hwy 200 is the Bonner Mall with national retailers JC Penneys, Sears and Staples. A cinema, dining and grocery store are also on site. Further north is a WalMart Superstore, craft supply store and specialty shops.

Bonners Ferry

Further north on Hwy 95/Hwy 2, near the Canadian boarder, sits the town of Bonners Ferry with a newly revitalized downtown shopping district. The Main Street area features an eclectic mix of boutiques, book stores, gift shops, coffee houses and eateries.

Historic Wallace Idaho

East of Coeur d’Alene is the historic mining town of Wallace. Famed as the ”Silver Capital of the World” with over 1.1 billion ounces of silver produced in the Silver Valley since 1884, every downtown building is on the National Register of Historic Places. Over a dozen antique and specialty shops dot the town including Silver Capital Arts & Mineral Museum, Idaho Treasures, Gold Ole Days and the North Idaho Trading Company, featuring Idaho silver products and collectibles. Visitors can still feel the presense of yesteryear as they stroll through the center of town.  It’s a souvenir hunters’ paradise.

South of Coeur d’Alene on Hwy 95 is the small community of St. Maries. In 2004, the city completed a $2 million downtown revitalization with new streets, sidewalks and lighting. Increasing tourism sparked several new businesses to open recently including an art gallery, craft and antique dealers mall, and gift shops.
